The Indo-Pacific Environmental Group (IPEG) is a platform and hub for entrepreneurs, NGOs, governments, donors, investors, academics, professionals, students, and volunteers looking for proactive and effective solutions to environmental issues in the Indo-Pacific Region. IPEG’s mission is to deliver accelerated results to the region’s climate-induced challenges and anthropogenic impacts.

Our organization is founded on the principle that the protection and rejuvenation of the planet’s natural harmony is the core of our global and interconnected societies’ sustainability. This sustainability is inseparable from the advancement of social, ethnic, and gender equity, as economic betterment and education relieve many points of pressure on the environment.

IPEG tackles environmental issues with practical and innovative solutions that mitigate ecological deterioration and rejuvenate our eco-systems. This is achieved through a “donor/investor/concerted professional action” model.

IPEG is the coordinating center for three different entities:

Effective Solutions to Environmental Challenges for Governments and Corporations

IPEA is a research and consulting body comprised of a network of researchers, professionals, academics, civil servants, NGOs, and financiers providing input, data, and study in order to deliver effective options to issues submitted to IPEA.

This specialized and adaptable organization enables IPEA to address a wide range of topics:

Research, consulting, marketing, and education focused on de-carbonization, renewable clean energy, resilience, and adaptation of infrastructure, manufacturing plants, and buildings.
Research and proposals towards achieving “Circularity”: economic endeavors are to be conceived with the least “Negative Eco-Impact”, recycling all by-products into new usable elements. There is value to be found and created in by-products of production, manufacturing, distribution, and consumption. Circularity invites governments and businesses to envision industries and their regulations based on local and global environments, as well as socio-economic realities and demands.

Incubator and Venture Builder for Accelerated Environmental Progress

IPGG is an incubator and venture builder platform that fosters the creation and development of environmentally progressive products and enterprises.

The incubation of new concepts is supported by grants and funding from NGOs and nonprofits, rapidly bringing promising endeavors to the proof-of-concept/of-market stage.

The venture building of the new companies brings in seasoned professionals and investors to accelerate growth and financial results.

Both the incubator and the venture builder are powered by project-focused teams assembled by IPGG from networks of experienced international professionals and entrepreneurs.

The needs addressed by these products and enterprises include:

Reduction/cleanup and mitigation of negative environmental impact, such as river and ocean plastics, air and water pollution, micro-plastics, de-carbonization
Environmental rejuvenation: productive reforestation -along with alternatives to wood fuel and timber, river flows, wetlands, mangroves, etc.
Design of new energy production models and systems, including multi-source energy production units and storage: “Managed Power Packs”. Objective: implementation of micro/nano/pico-grids based on diverse local sourcing and cybersecurity imperatives. Applications: military and sensitive industrial installations, government centers, hospitals, refuge facilities, remote and island communities, etc.
Emission-free personal and commercial transportation and cargo
Progressive food production/packaging/transportation/distribution methods to reduce negative impacts on nature, including diminished use of fertilizers and pesticides, reduction of methane and carbon emissions, elimination of single use plastics

Indo-Pacific Environmental Leadership Awards

Annual Leadership Awards Live Event

IPELA.org is a nonprofit organization that seeks to identify and acknowledge “Leaders” in the Indo-Pacific Region who are tackling the global climate emergency.

The IPELA Board is composed of professionals, environmentalists, academics and past Awardees who search the Region to identify nominees excelling in environmental stewardship, environmental justice, and ecological rejuvenation.

A year-long process identifies and evaluates individuals, NGOs, local businesses, international companies, and local and national governments that have accomplished a significant salutary contribution to environmental progress. At the annual online streaming Awards Event, the Board’s Executive Committee introduces –live- the various category winners: the Leaders, who have been chosen from the different pools of nominees.

The event is complemented by intermediary segments featuring videos of work in progress, innovations, and interviews of environmentalists, celebrities involved in green causes, and members of governments addressing global environmental issues.

The Leaders benefit from access to greater exposure, resources, networks, prizes, scholarships, etc. in relation to their work and their needs.

Philip Lajaunie

Founder:

Philip Lajaunie was born and raised in Bordeaux, France, where he initially pursued a medical career. After emigrating to the United States in the early 1980s, Philip became an avid entrepreneur: hospitality, real estate, product development, manufacturing, and international distribution. His endeavors have been rooted in a commitment to local economic opportunities and community building.

Sustainability and environmental engagement have been woven throughout Philip’s career, including:

Concerted Environmental Concerns Ltd.: tire recycling R&D, patents (1993-1999)
Chair of Environmental Policy, Community Board 5, City of New York, 1997
President of the Green Republicans, NY Chapter, 1998
Numerous travels in Asia studying and assessing environmental deterioration and potential solutions and endeavors, 1996-current

IPEG’s professional network:

The network is being assembled, and candidacies and proposals are continuously considered. The network’s seasoned professionals join in IPEA and IPGG’s various projects based on the nature thereof. Members participate in developing endeavors, or are consulted when creative input is needed. From engineers, accountants, environmentalists, academics, financiers, lawyers, government staff, and NGOs to C-suite executives, motivated individuals are welcome to become members of our growing network. Members may elect to contribute their professional contribution as seed investment.

IPEG is also looking for co-founders bringing unique talent, knowledge, and (renewable!) energy to its global endeavors.

Hervé Houdré

Sustainability in Hospitality and Real Estate:

Hervé Houdré enjoyed a rewarding hospitality career managing prestigious hotels: Plaza Athénée New York, Hôtel de Crillon and Plaza Athénée Paris, Willard InterContinental-Washington D.C., InterContinental Barclay-New York and held the position of Chief Operating Officer, Kempinski Hotels & Resorts. Houdré was recognized as the 2006 Independent Hotelier of the World by HOTELS magazine readers.

A leader in sustainability, in 2006 he published Sustainable Hospitality© – Sustainable Development in the Hotel Industry, a white paper promoted by Cornell University’s Center for Hospitality Research. He co-edited a book, Hotel Sustainable Development: Principles and Best Practices, published in 2011 by American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute. He teaches Sustainable Tourism at New York University, lectured at New York Institute of Technology, George Washington University, Michigan State University, Tourism College of Zhejiang and in numerous trade conferences. Throughout his career he served on several boards such as The Leading Hotels of the World, Hotel Association of New York City, American Hotel & Motel Association, NYC & Company, United Nations International School, Global Sustainable Tourism Council.

Robert Thomas

Environmental Strategy and Compliance:

Highly regarded as a global leader in environmental stewardship, Robert D. F. Thomas, PhD.c., has built a stellar reputation by developing and implementing innovative risk mitigation and sustainability initiatives; which ensure environmental, social, and governance (ESG) engagement. Throughout his career, he has led the implementation of innovative processes to ensure strict adherence to global policies and applicable regulations, with a particular emphasis on identifying and resolving emerging risks.

Currently, Mr. Thomas serves as the Director, Environmental Compliance for Sysco Corporation where he is responsible for the environmental performance of Sysco Operating Companies and U.S. Specialties; thereby, overseeing Sysco’s environmental strategy, systems, policies and programs that promote sustainable development. Mr. Thomas holds a BS in Civil Engineering from the FAMU/FSU College of Engineering, an MBA from Palm Beach Atlantic University, a Masters in Environmental Law & Policy from Vermont Law School, and he’s currently pursuing Ph.D. in Global Sustainability from Prescott College.

Indo-Pacific Region

The Indo-Pacific Region stretches from India to the western shores of the Americas, and from NE Asia to Australia and New Zealand. The region encompasses nations with many of the fastest-growing populations and industrial developments, creating unprecedented environmental pressures. Many countries are at immediate risk of massive floods, requiring urgent adaptation. In numerous areas, the regulatory universe is insufficient, which allows rapid environmental deterioration.

The region’s young populations, however, are dedicated to improve the earth’s environment, bringing dedication, creativity, and power to change the current paradigms and, in fact, save the world.
